Description

Grade 2 Social Studies, taught in English, expands student’s understanding of communities, geography, government, historical figures and world cultures. Through age appropriate English vocabulary and guided instruction, students explore maps, neighborhoods, community services, resources, important landmarks and famous people who shaped history. The course is designed to strengthen subject knowledge while helping students communicate Social Studies concepts using simple English vocabulary and complete sentence responses.

Class Focus

• Exploring communities, neighborhoods, maps, compass roses, longitude, latitude and rural, urban and suburban areas.

• Learning about government topics such as the branches of government, the U.S. government, the First Amendment and important national buildings.

• Understanding community roles, services, resources, goods and services and how cities are built and organized.

• Participating in Social Studies activities such as fill in the blanks, map reading, matching tasks, drawing activities, city building tasks and identifying landmarks or countries.

• Building confidence through vocabulary definition practice, memorization and describing people, places, historical figures and events using Social Studies English.

Learning Outcome

By the end of the course, students will be able to identify community features, maps, compass directions and important landmarks. They will demonstrate understanding of basic government concepts, community roles and resources. Students will also recognize important historical figures, compare different types of communities and explain Social Studies concepts using relevant vocabulary and complete English sentences.

과목 소개 (Description)

Grade 2 Social Studies는 영어로 진행되며, 학생들이 지역사회, 지리, 정부, 역사적 인물, 세계 문화에 대해 이해를 넓히도록 돕습니다. 수업은 학년 수준에 맞는 영어 어휘와 단계별 안내를 바탕으로 진행되며, 지도, 이웃과 마을 구조, 지역사회 서비스와 자원, 주요 랜드마크, 역사에 영향을 준 인물 등을 탐구합니다.
이 과목은 사회과 개념에 대한 기초 지식을 쌓는 동시에 학생들이 사회과 개념을 쉬운 영어 어휘와 완전한 문장으로 표현할 수 있도록 돕는 데 중점을 둡니다.

• 지역사회, 이웃, 지도, 나침반 표시, 경도·위도, 농촌·도시·교외 지역의 특징을 탐구하기

• 정부의 기초 개념인 정부 조직, 미국 정부 구조, 수정헌법 제1조, 주요 국가 기관 등을 학습하기

• 지역사회의 역할, 서비스, 자원, 재화와 서비스, 도시가 구성되는 과정을 이해하기

• 사회과 정체성이 드러나는 활동(지도 읽기, 빈칸 채우기, 매칭 활동, 그리기, 도시 구성, 랜드마크·국가 식별) 참여하기

• 사회과 영어 어휘를 활용하여 사람·장소·역사적 인물·사건을 묘사하고 어휘 정의 및 암기 활동을 통해 표현 자신감을 기르기
