Description

In Grade 2 Science, students are encouraged to develop a natural curiosity in the world around them. Building on their foundational knowledge acquired in Grade 1, students are exposed to a wide variety of exciting topics to pique their interest in the subject even further.

Students engage with these topics through learning new vocabulary first, then utilising this knowledge in a variety of hands-on engaging activities, such as class discussions, labelling activities and educational games. Learning is supported through visual material, such as pictures and labelled diagrams. Moving through the year, students learn topics such as animal and insect anatomies, the solar system and geographical science. Students are also introduced to simple physics concepts, such as states of matter, friction and temperature. 

Class Focus

• Identify anatomical structures in a variety of animals and insects

• Gain basic understanding of geography through the lens of physics, and be able to apply this to their own learned experiences

• Be introduced to the structure of the human body and how separate organs function

• Practicing observation and description through diagrams, labelling activities, and class discussions

Learning Outcome

By the end of the year, students will have gained the skills to cross-reference new information with existing knowledge, creating mental links through lived experiences and academic practice. They will also be able to engage with new topics confidently and curiously, asking well-informed questions independently.

과목 설명 (Description)

Grade 2 Science에서는 학생들이 주변 세계에 대해 자연스러운 호기심을 더욱 발전시킬 수 있도록 돕습니다. 1학년에서 익힌 기초 지식을 바탕으로, 학생들은 흥미를 자극하는 다양한 과학 주제를 접하며 과목에 대한 관심을 한층 더 넓혀 갑니다.

학습은 먼저 새로운 과학 어휘를 익히고, 이를 실제로 활용해 보는 방식으로 진행됩니다. 수업 토의, 라벨링 활동, 교육용 게임 등 다양한 체험 중심 활동을 통해 학습 내용을 자연스럽게 적용하고 이해하도록 합니다. 또한 사진, 그림, 라벨링된 도식 등 시각 자료를 활용하여 개념을 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 지원합니다.

학년이 진행되면서 학생들은 동물과 곤충의 해부학적 구조, 태양계, 지리 과학 등 폭넓은 주제를 탐구하게 됩니다. 더불어 물질의 상태, 마찰, 온도와 같은 기초 물리 개념도 처음으로 접하며 과학적 사고의 범위를 확장합니다.
